That was really close and a real embarrassment to the U S Army which had been driven the length of Korea. Now, the Korean government pays part of the costs of us maintaining a force in case of new problems!

Fortunately, CSM Charles Hayden, close only counts in horseshoes and handgranad. You bend but don't break!

Sgt Joe LaBranche Not only the Pusan perimiter, but the revolt on the island where N Korean POWs were held caused a lot of consternation! Seems like the 187th Airborne RCT went there?

I was stationed at Pusan in 2001. We were in a contingency hospital on a ROK base. Minimal staff was stationed there to keep everything maintained and rotate meds and supplies out before they expired. Funny story...we had a couple pallets of IV fluids that had expired so we were out in the parking lot cutting the bags open and dumping out the fluids to throw the bags away. Finally we got the bright idea to just line the bags up in a long row and drive over them in a deuce and a half. Worked great at popping the bags until a ROK unit rolled up in an APC locked and loaded thinking we were firing weapons. None of us spoke Korean so pucker factor was high for a minute.

Thanks for the Post SGT LaBranche! Your article reminds me that the only war we were ready for in the 20th Century was Desert Storm. Korea by far was our biggest surprise.

LTC John Mohor, I truly believe that our military prepares us for the physical aspects of war, but lacks the knowledge or education to prepare our troops for the psychological aftereffects of battle.
As a Vietnam veterans, I still struggle at times with the way our government betrayed us in battle and how our citizens abandoned and disrespected us.
I firmly believe our Vietnam Era government is responsible for the lack of respect other nations have for the United States today. The government showed weakness and a lack of courage and dedication to win.
Thank you for your service and dedication to our country!
