From a former Drill Sergeant this has been a topic for years. I do think it would be more appropriate for when they graduate basic and have actually accomplished something! But after red phase when they haven't done anything but get broken down in order to be built back up to a Soldier is where we are failing.

Good luck with that I'm on the trail now and all they tell you to do is drink the cool Aid and deal with. This job is beyond frustrating, and it almost impossible to filter out the garbage soldiers. I have a few that have been on quarters or profile the entire cycle but they always magically come off of profile just before a graduation requirement, complete the requirement, then go right back on profile. This job is far more disappointing than it is rewarding, and I was really excited about the assignment...

SFC (Join to see) - thank you for your comment. I started reading 350-6 last night before going to bed. I just finished it. 350-6 led to me reading large parts of other docs that are intertwined into it.
I want to earn my place, so the more I know the better I can be. I want to be the best that I can be and I hope and pray my Drill Seargents, and Cadre find leadership qualities in me.

Completely unrelated to topic but I ask you as a previous Drill Sergeant. In the event that a DS ever tells a trainee to pick up the DS's Campaign Hat is the trainee allowed to do so or is it a trap? What should a trainee do if ever told to pick up a DS's Campaign Hat? Or, will a DS never tell a trainee to pick it up?
