In my early days of service the USO sponsored dances on base as well as other activities.

3000 miles form home (before I moved another 10.000 away) with no transportation would have been much harder without them.

And they never asked for a penny.

I seldom see them much anymore. Occasionally in an airport, but, the wife doesn't like to fly. I have been known to give a couple of bucks when I do drop in on one.

The USO has a long history of service to military service members who have been traveling from station to station with layovers in cities.
