I heard the F-35 isn't much of a fighter. Is this true?

last I heard it lost 17 of 17 engagements with a Heavily loaded F-16. It fails as a CAS aircraft as it only carries a small amount of ammunition and the bomb bay is to small to carry its primary munition. the helmet is too heavy for many female pilots (would snap their necks) it uses non-standard aircraft power so requires all new AGE, and they cannot figure out the theater control avionics suite.
that is all I can remember off the top of my head

Contract let in 1996, first flight 2006 (as I understand it), twelve years later planned deployment. Why would that happen? Perhaps we should contact the program manager.

"On 9 November 2009, Ashton Carter, under-secretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, acknowledged that the Pentagon "joint estimate team" (JET) had found possible future cost and schedule overruns in the project and that he would be holding meetings to attempt to avoid these.[56] On 1 February 2010, Gates removed the JSF Program Manager, U.S. Marine Corps Major General David Heinz, and withheld $614 million in payments to Lockheed Martin because of program costs and delays."
