It's a cultural thing, we see it as the evil serpent versus the helpless puppy. The Chinese see it as just a dog being eaten by a big snake. If the snake hadn't eaten it, it probably would've been on someone's menu anyway. Chinese slaughter millions of dogs a year for consumption.

I read a good bit about that dog eating festival in China a few months ago. Interesting, to say the least.

Makes Sense Now. A little Outrage Material for a British Tabloid, The Brits love their Dogs, China they view them no different than Cattle for the most Part, a Source of Meat. You do this in the UK and you would be in some serious Trouble.

The majority of individuals at least in American culture have been raised toshow respect towards dogs and puppies because they are looked at as household pets whereas snakes are dangerous or gross. A lot of it is a subconscious

Fears that are perpetuated by society are displayed in this video. You are supposed to love and take care of your puppies are pets because they're soft and cuddly, but when you look at A snake most people don't feel the same way towards them even though they can be domestic pets. The majority of people are going to have a psychological and even emotional response because they have more of an affinity towards dogs than snakes.
