General MacArthur was a brilliant man and a hell of a commander. He was rough around the edges at time but his men loved him and would follow him anywhere. I know he didn't want to leave his men in the Philippines when they took him to Australia during the war. He kept his word to his men and the Philippino's and returned to them during the war and defeated the Japanese. The way he lead his men in the Korean War great if the president and him wouldn't have had a disagreement the war might have been won and not ended the way it did.

I was a cadet at West Point when the movie about General of The Armies Douglas MacArthur was being filmed at West Point SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. As plebes we had to memorize his Duty, Honor, Country speech which was given at Washington Hall [cadet mess] on May 12, 1962. I was a cadet from 1976 to 1980 and I think the movie was being filmed 15 years after the speech. Military Science and Art are very important subjects for cadets at West Point and we studied Macarthur in WWII and the Korean War from a military perspective as well as from a federal government Executive Branch perspective.
SGM David W. Carr LOM, DMSM MP SGT was also stationed at West Point at that time.
