I've been off FB for a few days and I decided to check and see what's up on there. First thing I see is a buddy blasting Obama for not attending Nancy Reagan's funeral. He went on and on about how messed up this is, and how bad we are for having him as a president. Less than one minute on Google, and this turns up. So it would appear that news agencies strip enough away to get the folks to think in a negative light, not telling the masses this SXSW is not a "party" but an effort to raise money for the party. Big play on words there. It was also broadcasted well in advance of her death, so it's not a coincidence he's not attending or out of spite. It would appear that when any First Lady passes, the wives of the living Presidents attend, NOT the men. In Pres. Bush's case, he attended only because his wife had an engagement that she had scheduled in advance. I do not mind one bit admitting Obama made a mistake, or has made mistakes, but to tell only part of the story is asinine. I'm beginning to feel the only way to get unbiased news is to not watch the news on any station.

What a lot of folks don't get and ASSUME is that SXSW is strictly a music festival and it's not. I know many folks from Government who are going. It's so much more. I may not agree with all of President Obama's policies, but I feel in this case it's people setitng standards for President Obama only and that is wrong. Especially when precident has shown that Other presidents didn't attend other First Ladies' funerals.

as much as I hate it, I must come to Obama's defense. Historically, past presidents have not attended former first lady's funerals. That duty was left to the first lady. That said, it will be interesting to see if Michelle shows up.

It's been noted on other sites that she will attend the funeral and then go to SXSW to meet back up with her husband.

This is typical "Obama can do no right" rhetoric. Ironically, the people who are screaming
"disrespect" the loudest were very silent when President George W. Bush skipped out on Lynda Bird Johnsons funeral in 2007.
Perhaps people should recognize that the protocol for former First Lady funerals is that the First Lady attends not the President.
