He's right, but in MY opinion, Russia is one recession away from a catastrophic meltdown. Putin is putting money into their military, but like us it's not always in the right spot, and unlike us, most of the stuff we end with works. Russian infrastructure is also not very good, so you're making it hard on yourself over the long haul. Also the price of oil is coming to historic lows. That is another issue for Russia being they supply a good portion of Europe with oil. And now they're in the Artic making claims to oil fields along with the US and European countries. Putin respects power, but in his case, the power that could destroy him and the "party" over there is the declining economy, and the corruption that is rampant in Russian government. Make it so that they cannot economically survive without massive loans and hopefully we won't ever have to raise any weapons against them, just sit back and watch as their economy implodes. I'd like this clip from The Hunt for Red October. Replace submarine with oil contract

Russia and Alaska are only 55miles from the narrowest point of the Bearing Sea, and the Army wants to cut 2,500 troops from bases in Alaska. And to reduce Army end strength by 40,000 troops by the end of fiscal 2018. WTF

Those Military leaders be well advised to refrain from such nonsense, before President Obama comes out and makes fun of them suggesting that "... you were asked what is the biggest geopolitical group facing America, you said Russia — not al-Qaeda. And the 1980's are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back — because the Cold War has been over for 20 years. But ... when it comes to our foreign policy, you seem to want to import the foreign policies of the 1980's" (Pres Obama)
Not my words.. just an observation.
