Chiming in as the designated customs and immigration person. First, some things to question the veteran for NOT doing?

Why didn't he naturalize over the decades?

Three parts to a story: your view, my view, the truth. Don't think one article is telling us everything.

People don't go away for years for "possession".

Veteran has due process at criminal trial and at the immigration court.

Would you want anyone on your streets selling heroin?

Personally, I read the article, there is a boatload that veteran isn't telling us.

SPC George Rudenko , thanks for your input. I agree with your questions, and have one for you. Is it normal process for Immigration to be delayed in deporting someone as in this situation? I understand the logistics of the Federal Government and how due process can take time to enact, but three years into a sentence seems a long time. Is that the typical time, or was it not rushed because he wasn't going anywhere?

It is sad MSgt Lionel (Leo) Rondeau. He served his adopted country well but his mistake was not becoming a citizen. He's been here long term but without citizenship to protect him, he's thrown back to Mexico like a common criminal. To serve this country as an officer, you have to be a citizen, I feel the same should be true for enlisted soldiers. If they want to volunteer to serve this country, they should be offered a fast track to citizenship. If they choose not to accept that, we don't need them.

I thought after 9/11 there was a fastrack to citizenship for Soldiers who weren't citizens yet. I'd like to know why he never went and got his citizenship, and wasn't there a max number of years you could serve in before you HAD to get it or get out?
