I have problems with the article. First Russia is as rich if not richer than the United States in mineral and Natural Resource wealth. It's problems with exploiting it's wealth have nothing to do with the country being landlocked and more to do with past and current governments concentrating on a Military buildup and string of useless military alliances instead of developing the interior of the country. Russia has a very significant Pacific Coast which it can develop Naval ports on, it could gain access to the Atlantic or anywhere else if it was more friendly towards it's neighbors versus threatening them. Even looking at China developing the overland rail corridors to Europe (new Silk Road)..............really that should have been a Russian project but because they have weaponized pipelines to Natural Gas sources in the past, nobody trusts the Russians with rail corridors to elsewhere in the world like Asia or China. Russia's economic stagnation now under sanctions also has to do with it's unwarranted and overly aggressive behavior as well. So fix the political system of Russia to be more open and Democratic and it could potentially become a Superpower. The track Russia is on now though is going to regulate it to Bannana Republic Status.

You could take 10 arbitrarily chosen maps and make a case against any country.
