Bio
Spent 17 months@ Ft. Hood 1st Cav Div 1st Bat 8th Cav. Got the best training I ever received in the Army under an NCO to this day I still respect more than any other person I ever had to deal with during my 4 years of service. PCS'ed to Germany Dec. 1979 to 11th Arm Cav 3rd Sqd Bad Hersfeld. Did a lot of border duty. Made E-5 there. Was vehicle commander M-113. Between Graf & Border I stayed busy.
Military Experiences
Started in Aug 1978
SP4 19D
During Scout Qualification course I had to dismount from my M113 to engage troops in open with my M203. In between my rounds out I could hear range control tell the next track to pull on line and prepare to move out on their command. I had fired my last grenade and was double timing it to the track when I heard an M60 open fire. The next thing I know there are rounds hitting all around me, I could see the rounds hit. The track commander was yelling Huey get down, hit the dirt. Hell I was already on the ground. Of course they had buttoned up already as well. The fidiots in the track that was called on line pulled on line and immediately went into target acquisition with the M60 and I was the target. Jesus what a wake up call. They went through half a belt before they could be stopped.Scary!
