About
FET is a program that was started by the U.S. Marines Corps and has been around for nearly a decade. It is comprised of volunteer female members of appropriate rank, experience and maturity to develop trust-based and enduring relationships with the Afghan women they encounter on patrols. The FET doesn't have a combat function, but if found in a hostile situation they are trained to react appropriately. Combat training includes basic patrolling and reacting to contact and improvised explosive devices, known as IEDs, like infantrymen. Providing a comfortable solution to cultural differences, their primary function is to assist in the collection of valuable intelligence in lieu of their male counterparts by interacting and bonding with the women of Afghanistan.
