Hmm... what kind of assignment was that for an Army SF Major? 22 months? I've never heard of anything like that. There are likely a lot more interesting angles to this story than just what was covered.
What SF Group was he in? What was his background? It would be a lot easier if he just had a RallyPoint profile.

SSG James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" - To the best of my knowledge, the only country that Americans cannot be a tourist in, from the American side (as far as I know) is Cuba, and that is quickly changing of course. You can buy a commercial ticket right now to Kabul if you want on orbitz.com.
