Interesting news. Thanks for the share. I have many friends who now live in Panama. Ex-pats from both the US and Canada.
I miss the days when the US had bases down there. Driving through the old Howard AFB is always a little sad. It still looks mostly the same though.

the most interesting aspect is that the Chinese have a presence at both ends of the canal which puts them in an interesting strategic and tactical position.
there is also talk (again) of another canal in Nicaragua with the canal passing through Lake Nicaragua... guess who is financing/engineering?
i have a friend in Nicaragua from back in the day... it's interesting when she starts discussing all the Chinese projects in Latin America that we never hear about.
we missed many opportunities in our own back yard.
