Since before World War II, American women have served in uniform volunteering for the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps (WACs), Navy Women’s Reserve (WAVES), Marine Corps Women’s Reserve, Coast Guard Women’s Reserve (SPARS), Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPS), Army Nurses Corps, and Navy Nurse Corps. Today, women hold key roles in all branches of the United States military.
VA and DoD celebrate those efforts and recognizes the history and future of women service members and Veterans by offering the Women’s Health Transition Training (WHTT) program for those women transitioning out of military service to civilian life or Guard/Reserves.
Military women and recently separated women Veterans are invited to attend a WHTT training to learn about the valuable resources available at VA after transitioning from active duty.
WHTT provides an opportunity to learn about women-specific services at the VA including mammography, OBGYN care, mental health, and suicide prevention services. By attending this free, informational training, service women will also learn:
• how to enroll in VA health care,
• transitioning support resources and partners available to women, and
• women-focused healthcare services available at the VA.
Live, virtual sessions are available twice per day through December 21st. Every training session is led by a woman Veteran who has been through the transitioning and enrollment process at VA and uses VA health care services. Many sessions include a special guest Women Veterans Program Manager (WVPM) or clinical specialist from various VA clinics around the country. These WVPMs have a unique knowledge of the services and offerings to women by women. They will answer questions and provide additional insight about potential physical and mental health challenges women may face as they transition out of active duty service.
This is a training for women developed and taught by women. Register today at http://www.va.gov/womenvet/whtt. Our website also has additional information about the WHTT program for your convenience.
In December as in all days, we celebrate all service women and recognize the sacrifices they continue to make for our country. Thank you for your service!
