The video posted above is a documentary that aired about me during the Home Base Mission Gratitude benefit. It’s an open and honest interview about not only my time overseas but my struggle with post war reintegration. Please watch it if you get a chance.
My name is SGT Kurt Power. I am an Iraq War Purple Heart Recipient and proud graduate of the Home Base Program. I’m no marathon runner (or even a runner in general) and a marathon certainly isn‘t on my bucket list but PLEASE let me tell you why I have decided to run this year’s Boston Marathon. I am running because as a combat veteran/wounded warrior I wake up every morning knowing that 22 of my military brothers and sisters will take their own life by the end of the day...so I will do ANYTHING in my power to try and help. We all took an oath to leave no man (or woman) behind and we wouldn’t leave a wounded soldier to die on the battlefield so why would we do it in now in the civilian world because their battle isn't over. I have no desire to run 26.2 whatsoever but I do have a desire to help and to try and save the lives of our American Heroes. I’m the straightest shooter in the world...I'm old, fat, I’ve been shot by a sniper, I’m full of scar tissue, and I have 11 pieces of shrapnel still lodged in my chest but I’ll crawl the 26.2 if i have to to finish this marathon if it can convince just one Veteran out there in crisis to stay just one more day. I run not only to raise money for their treatment at the Home Base Program, a world class program for PTSD and TBI that is saving Veterans lives on a daily basis, but in hopes it will help raise support and awareness for the fight against VETERAN SUICIDE. It’s time for all of us to join forces and start fighting for the brave men and women who fight for us every single day. PLEASE consider supporting me in this mission, no contribution is too small, and I promise you collectively we can make a difference! Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you so much for your support of the Troops!!
Follow my footsteps. I will be running the Boston Marathon in support of the Home Base Program. All proceeds will go to the program that changed my life. To help, check out my crowdsource page here: https://rly.pt/KurtsMarathon

The Home Base program is a great one. I hear all sorts of positive stories from there. I wish we had more programs like it across the US. Thank you for doing fund raising for them SGT Kurt Power

Definitely! The place is legitimately saving lives on a daily basis. Couldn’t recommend it more to any of your soldiers having a tough time. Thank you for your service and all the support Colonel!

There are better reasons to run than just for health or fun. I am glad that you are willing to do whats hard in order to help others!
