THROUGH THE AMEVETS POSTS, AMVETS RIDER GROUPS, AND OTHER MOTORCYCLE RIDERS GROUPS AROUND THE COUNTRY, WE WILL BRING A GREAT AMOUNT OF AWARENESS TO THIS ISSUE. THANKS TO SSGT JOE CHENELLY & HIS LEADERSHIP AT AMVETS.

SSgt Joe Chenelly I am a lifetime VFW member and donate to the DAV, so I am familiar with those organizations. What mission does AMVETS accomplish that is different than VFW or DAV?

AMVETS is the only veterans organization that doesn't discriminate on where or when you served. Life membership is less than those that you mentioned. Rated very well too: https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=11547

Great questions, Ted. Semper fi. As the good Master Sergeant noted, AMVETS is open to and fighting for all 20 million veterans. That includes Guard and Reserve. Combat and not-combat veterans. Wartime and non-wartime. We take pride in the fact that about 38% of our members are not eligible for regular membership in AL, VFW, DAV, PVA, or VVA. Those organizations do great things and are excellent partners, but we are unique in that we consider the needs of every veteran.

SSgt Joe Chenelly we always donate clothing and other items to AMVETS - just the other day 8 - 20 gallon bags of clothing - and I'm just curious as to how and who is this helping? As well great to see a vet leading the way.

We really appreciate that, David! Thank you. The donated items are sold in our thrift stores around the country. Those funds are used to supply service officers, focusing on the communities in which we receive donations. That is operated by our National Service Foundation, so all those donations are tax-deductible. We also have a heavy focus on combating veterans homelessness with funds raised through our thrift store operations.

Awesome - now that I know I will for sure keep doing it. I know a Goodwill and Best Buy are as well working with vets with old computer - training as well fixing and selling donated PC's in the process. Do you have a similar program?

Join nearly 2 million former and current members of the US military, just like you.
