Who do YOU believe is the bigger threat in Syria? Don't forget to post why after you vote.

MY OPINION: Many would label ISIS as the bigger threat, but this would be overlooking the fact that they've taken advantage of Assad's war crimes on his own citizens. There's also talk of FSA-affiliated Al-Qaeda/Al-Nusra who are rising behind the scenes: Neither are good - I still think Assad is worse.

First you need to look into cause-and-effect. The Assad regime rules the Syrian population with a strong hand. He is the primary reason that the FSA was established, and ISIS jumped on board. However, there is a difference between ISIS and the FSA with conflicting interests. Both justify their position as Islamic fundamentalists’. The question asking: “Who is the biggest treat in Syria” is like asking who would you support in the United States if widespread war broke out among the Crips and the Bloods. The answer: NEITHER. The problem is any government established under Islamic rule is going to have a lot of unrest because everything is justifiable as a means to an end depending their interpretation of the Koran. The powers-to-be can justify all their actions by quoting from the Koran, and, the revolutionaries can do the same; both for self-serving reasons. We have Turkey supporting ISIS with fuel, and The Russians supporting the Assad regime to maintain their base in Tartus. We’ve got ourselves involved in a war that cannot, and will not be won. It is an endless war that Westerners should back away from. Islam is evil at it core and there is no getting around that. Any country that puts Christians in prison for promoting the Gospel is evil. Shake the dust from your sandals and walk away.

Added 20:02 April 5. I might add the role I'd approve that we take would be more humanitarian. Even if you armed the Kurds you cannot be sure if those weapons would end up in the hands of ISIS. I do NOT approve allowing Syrian to migrate and settle in the USA. The Syrian's need to decide for themselves what kind of government they want. Generally, there is no way they will assimilate into our society. Only a small percentage can; or will. If they want to be ruled by tyranny and/or Islam, that would be their decision. So stay in the Middle East. Additionally, the USA has not been the shining example for freedom around the would when they continually assert themselves in the affairs of other countries. Westerners have not made the effort to learn about Middle Easterners (Arab, Persian, Egyptian, Turks, Assyrians, etc.) and their history, and how different people interact with others they don't share some basic beliefs. This is not a Cowboys versus Indians scenarios of Hollywood. There is no simple solution to the problems and issues of the Middle East where there is a long history of violence. In many parts of the Middle East people live in a tribal society that does not promote peace and harmony. Christian's are infidels and subjected to the most extreme types of reprisal. Most of us can not comprehend this type of mindset.

The question is not who has killed the most people because in that you would have to include the deceased Saddam Hussein in Iraq, its who wants to spread their ideologies and war past their own boarders and that would be the rebels and ISIS. The numbers would change if the rebels or ISIS was in full control because they promote full scale genocide on their enemies not just population control.

"Threat" for military people at the Strategic level is Capability x Intent. Of the three, only ISIS has a stated intent against the US or its interests...so that's why we're targeting ISIS and not Assad's regime. Biggest threat for civilians in Syria? Assad's regime, no question.

This was the response I was looking for. Thank you Col Joseph Lenertz, there certainly is a difference between 'our' interests and the interests of the Syrian people. Assad does work closely with Hezbollah, Russia, and Iran, however, who are also known to work against us. It seems to be a split opinion between Assad and ISIS.

If I have to pick the biggest long term threat to the Regions stability, my vote goes to the Saudis. Oil money and Wahabanism have caused more problems than all of Iran, Libya and Syria combined. Vote number to goes to Pakistan.

SPC (Verify To See) - Spec; To Syrians, the Assad regime is the biggest threat.

To America NONE of them are "significant" threats.

The problem in Syria IS NOT "fighting terrorism" it ISs deciding WHICH murderous band of terrorist thugs to support.
