Which branch insignia do enlisted soldiers wear, Unit assigned to or MOS trained in?

You wear your MOS branch. Unless you are going to a Cav unit when sometimes they like to be special and want to wear cross sabers. I would show up with your MOS branch and if the unit has some kind of SOP where they wear something different your squad leader or platoon sergeant will let you know. Good luck.

Read the question... Branch Insignia relates to MOS Some units do wear a unit insignia...ie, SF, instead of individual MOS insignia. In an ordinary unit, let's say an Infantry company... line Soldiers will wear their cross rifles, commo folks will were their crossed signal flags. Maintenance/Ordinance/Medics...all have their own insignia. NOW, there used to be a time when you were assigned to a unit, you wore that specific insignia. I was a mortarman (Infantry) assigned to the Armored Cav. The CSM at the time made us all were the armor insignia. As the senior Infantryman in the Squadron, I put an end to that.

Pride in your own MOS goes with wearing your MOS/Branch brass. As an infantryman, I would not want to wear Armor brass. However, I was assigned to the 11th ACR and our Regimental Commander encouraged the wearing of the Cavalry's crossed sabers. The 11th ACR had more pride, 'elan and morale than any other unit I was assigned to in 23 years of service. I had subsequent assignments in the Cavalry and wore crossed sabers there vs. the Warrant Officer Branch and then Aviation Branch insignia's. I still wear Cav Brass when I have reason to put on my uniform. So, I agree with wearing your MOS/Branch insignia, but I do believe that unit assignment and leadership prerogative allows exceptions (that should be addressed in AR's).
