Remember the days of scalding hot coffee served from a 16 qt pot? The smell of bacon frying at the Battalion or company mess hall? Oh, the delights of Army menu 1.... What was your favorite?

I don't think the Air Force can answer, they have dining facilities.

I pulled KP in these Dining Facilities - mess hall is an okay description. The mess hall in Japan could actually ruin a hot dog.

Most mess hall food just sucks, that's all there is to it, with very few exceptions. I will admit the milk was good, when fresh. As to the Mess Hall's on board ships not much different. On submarines great early on in the deployment, but if you got extended, hope you liked dried milk, eggs, black eyed peas, and canned ham.

Only really had three bad meals aboard the two ships I was stationed aboard --- one of them involved horsemeat from Australia during a supposed beef shortage --- tasted like it had been laced with a sack of sugar.

The mess hall at Fort Leonard Wood for F-2-4 was very good during my tech school there. Dec 1960 to Feb 1961.
