Whether it was an historical example, or perhaps something more recent, how has military sports impacted your service or impression of the military? Have you encountered or participated in military sporting events or programs? Have you worked with, met, or interacted with a military athlete? How has an official or unofficial military sporting event impacted your service? Is this something you're familiar with, or not so much? Are military sports more popular stateside or OCONUS? The idea here is to open a discussion on the impact of sports on military service, culture, recruiting, and of course an historical perspective of its role in yesteryear vs. today. This should be a fun and informative discussion, and I'm sure we'll all learn a thing or two in the process. So pull up a keyboard it's kickoff time; thank you for all that you do, and... see you all in the discussion threads!

When I was with the 747th Military Police Co (1980-1986) I had the pleasure of doing MP duty at Westpoint football games. It was very exciting to be at a location rich in history.

I wish there were more options, and maybe some more availability around the service.
I grew up playing hockey, and miss it a lot. However, there are few (if any) places that offer Battalion teams.

This article is more about recruiting than about military sports, although still an interesting read: http://www.marinecorpstimes.com/article/20140517/NEWS/305170036/Marine-Corps-resurrects-2-6-million-Semper-Fi-Bowl?sf26302015=1

I think the most military sporting events have impacted my life is when that special time of the year comes around and all my Navy friends come out of the woodwork to tell me how much Army football sucks, and I go to my room cuddling a bottle of scotch older than I am while getting my ugly girl cry on.
