My way to deal with hardship, disaster, and everything else is trust in the God of Heaven and earth Lt Col Charlie Brown
I have been through death of children [the LORD brought that son back to life and protected another who attempted suicide a few times], divorce, eviction [a few times], health disasters, termination of careers [twice] and other seemingly unbearable situations.
In each case, I learned to trust God and through that process I became more compassionate and have been able to help others going through similar trails of life.
Learning to adjust is an important step in physical and spiritual growth.
Like CPT Jack Durish mentioned, having a sense of humor is a great way to help ourselves and those we love bear up with grace:-)

Depends on the stress or hardship. Prior to my motorcycle accident, wind therapy worked well. Now, I try to head to a single track or to the silver comet trail on my mountain bike or road bike.

That's a good solution. Most pets are good that way except for parrots. They talk back!

I turn to humor. It's a strange knee jerk reaction. When I had a stroke and was waiting in the ambulance for transport to the hospital, the EMT who was on the radio giving a doctor my vitals looked at me weirdly and added, "He's strangely upbeat" I had been regaling the responders with my best jokes but it was coming out as gibberish since my entire left side, including that side of my mouth, was parallized

CPT Jack Durish - haha! Sounds familiar. My family uses humor a lot. My dad has since passed but when he had a heart attack at the age of 54, my mom and I went up to his room after his bypass. It was about 2 o’clock in the morning and he was obviously a bit groggy we were both standing at the end of the bed and he said “you to look like Heckel and Jekyll”.

He was a fairly accomplished cartoonist in by the end of his two week stay he was drawing animal noses & mouths on the masks for the nurses.

I ease that stress by turning to my painting. As far as hardship, I have had a few bumps but relied on my friends, family and most importantly, my inner strength and drive to pick myself up.

Lt Col Charlie Brown Clear out your mind of negative thoughts, and replace them with positive thoughts. Works for me.

Lt Col Charlie Brown I like to internalize it, feed off of it, and let it make me bitter and angry...no, I spend time with my wife of 35 years and have a very active private life of hunting, fishing, and competing with handguns, rifles, and in archery.

When possible I get on my bike, crank the music and do some wind therapy to think things through and get my thoughts in line. Once I get back I try to follow through on the best course of action.
