Enlist at 17 or 18 & be promoted to Cpl at 19 & Sergeant at 21 you get a lot of on the job training and classes on Leadership, and then some are born leaders if they excelled in grade school and high school athletics and academics.

At one point my goal in life was to make E5 on my first enlistment. I had 2 yrs in grade as E4, but couldn't quite make the cutting score before I got out.
