SPC Andrew Griffin - Can you please supply more information for this thread? I'm failing to see the connection between the image you posted and the question.

Its a STRONG Connection! I'm failing to see how you failed! LOL! As servicemen or men in General! What binds up from staying the home! Being Great Fathers! Community Leaders! Business Leaders! I admire President Obama and I believe he is the IDEAL family man that's why I posted the Picture. The Question is what has the most Relevance.

SPC Andrew Griffin - Thank you for the clarification.
For me, my kids are what push me to do what I do. They deserve and demand only my best. And when I leave this world, I want them to look at their children and say "Look, this is what it means to serve others."

SPC Andrew Griffin - Thanks. I'm far from "the best dad" but I work to be the best one I can be.

Loaded question without simple answers. I'd say that a streak of not having strong familial ties, a strong father figure (let alone a father in the home), unstable economy, low job prospects, and now a new generation that has less ties than ever to those before them. Technology is also breaking families. Kids used to play outdoors, now they sit in front of a game system. Parents used to spend time reading to their kids, now the computer can do that for them. We as a society had to interact, now we can tele this or virtual that. Hell I've heard of where kids don't even have to learn to write in cursive like they used to. It's a shift in focus, race immaterial from old traditions and values to new technological norms. Lastly ask yourself this; how many people do you know that still sit at the dinner table to eat and talk about the days events? How many people do you know still use snail mail? How many sit on the front porch and talk to the neighbors anymore? Being human is becoming a dying art.

After reading some of the responses, I tend to think it's much deeper than that... This is only my opinion and my personal experience, but I would have to say that the military changes a lot of people... some for the better and some not so much so... While "experiencing" the military, I have to admit, I got lost along the way... A lot... I wasn't the best father I could have been, nor was I the best husband. I even turned away from my family and the church for a while (that's a story for another time) but maintained my relationship with God, albeit, unconventionally... There is a saying... "Sometimes God calms the storms... But sometimes? He will let those storms rage, and calm His child..." My military career was freakin awesome, my personal life? Was a continual storm that I couldn't escape, and I required a great deal of "calming". It eventually cost me a lot... Wife, relationship with my boys, friends... I guess what I'm getting at, as far as the question, is that stability, or a lack of, for some is easily identified... but for others, it comes in many forms and definitions and it affects them in ways, as well as is affected in ways, not always so readily understood. Attempting to label a specific root cause isn't always easy when the individual really doesn't know why... Kinda like that "One Mans Poison" or "Whats good for the goose" analogy... It doesn't work for everyone...
I hope i didn't thoroughly confuse anyone... But, at least it makes sense in my head! LOL!
