Many of us have one thing that really gets to us. I have to say that probably my biggest pet peeve (as it pertains to the military) are ill fitted ACU tops. I constantly find myself explaining to people how their uniform should fit.

What is your pet peeve?

My PET PEEVE is the lack of enforcement of proper wear & appearance of the uniform itself. For issues I can make an on the spot correction for it doesn't bother me. I correct it and move on; however, having tight uniform, or ACU Top that is so high I see your front pockets and worse your back pockets..... DRIVES me crazy. I have spent more time educating people on the proper fit of their uniform than I see violations of grooming standards or other things.

I think each post should have "uniform police" like curtosey patrol. Issuing 72 hour time frame tickets for getting uniforms that fit. Because it sure is like a collateral duty to me.

Many posts do have a courtesy patrol - both for Soldiers and civilians.  Schofield Barracks is one of them.

Well to start my response off (and throw rocks at the Bee's Nest) AR 670-1 does not cover the walking and talking on a cell phone, walking while smoking, walking while eating, walking while drinking.  Those are more commonly known as Blue Book Standards that are added by the Post or Unit.

I.E.  USAG Grafenwoehr/Rose Barracks the post policy letter concerning uniform items does not address the above mentioned...it is completely within regulation to walk and smoke, walk and talk on a cell phone, etc... because there is no policy in place.

This is why everyone was confused at the proposed additions to AR 670-1 that was going to add those things.  Part of enforcing standards is making sure you know what the standards are, not just a monkey see/monkey do mentality.

I have a huge pet peeve for the way headgear is worn (any of the headgears), tilted back, ranger rolled, smashed, worn like a Marine (I kid you not, I had a soldier iron/starch out his PC because he saw that the Marines did it).  The headgear is one of the most noticeable parts of your uniform.

No where in AR 670-1 does it prohibit Soldiers from walking and talking on a cell phone.

SFC Attardi,

You are correct. This is something that is done at unit or post command level, not Army wide. With that being said I've never seen it allowed though. Every installation I've been to has had it in their post policy letters or post handbook.

Referring Soldiers by "E-Grades". I despise it! We don't refer our Commisioned Officers as an "O-Grade". I will correct you on spot if you state, for example, "E-4s". I know what you're getting paid. You have rank, use it correctly! Get rid of the "Beetle Bailey terminology". I hope this makes sense. That's my pet peeve.

People driving slow in the left hand lane. And slow means slower then me. I do tend to drive a little above the speed limit but leave racing to the track.

Respect, or rather disrespect-
When someone for the sake of humor is disregarding of your basic human respect, regardless the rank.
When folks try to "duck the music" or even worse, acknowledge its there without any regard whatsoever.

US Marines with combat service and have the lateral move to the US Army and are not authorized to wear their Marine Division/Air Wing emblem as their CSIB. Meanwhile US Soldiers that were temporarily assigned to a Marine Unit are authorized.
