I have to say that the A-10 Thunderbolt II, A.K.A. Big gun but slow. Get a fighter on its tail and bye bye. The F4 was capable in both roles and then some. With over 18,000 payload, it can do some serious damage.

I'm a fan of close air support. WW II and Korea had the F-4 Corsair, Vietnam had the A-1 Skyraider, and now we have (had) the A-10. If I had to choose from those, I would.......avoid the question. Of course, if it wasn't for the P-51 escorting B-17's. This question is hard!
