What is the accepted standard for showing rank in member names?

When I filled out my profile, I didn't know my rank would become part of my member name. I posted my highest rank, but as the old saying went, "I came in an E-1, I'll go out an E-1, as long as I go out." Well, unfortunately, that's just what I did. I got busted from E-4 to E-1 for pot possession my last day in the Army. Somehow I was promoted to E-2 before I got my discharge papers. Anyway, I didn't really want to be known as Private OR Specialist Jim McClain, just Jim McClain. Since I don't have that choice, I thought I should ask what the accepted practice was.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Typically people be the rank they exited the military with but as the senior admin that verifies accounts, I can tell you that I really don't look at rank unless the profile is for a GO. Other than that it's a honor thing.

Regardless of the official RP protocol I think all on RP will appreciate the honesty in your question. If you want to be called Jim, Jim it is.

CSM Charles Hayden - I'm failing to see where you comments are inline with the actual question.

SGT Ben Keen The query was re: exit or adopted rank?
What is your perception of PVT James Strait - his departing rank on leaving the military or the rank he choses to represent his attitude?

CSM Charles Hayden - I do not know any about PVT Strait. The question here has to do with what rank someone uses on his/her profile to which I provided my answer to as a Senior admin here on RallyPoint.

SGT Ben Keen it is late. PVT James Strait is an accomplished private pilot and many hundred jumps past a Master Parachutist Badge.
Having followed many of his posts and reading several of his published books, I have concluded that PVT James Strait did not leave the the US Army Special Forces as a Private.
Adoption of the PVT connotation is a mere ploy and distraction for his Rally Point posts.
My point is that the “rank” appearing on RP is mot necessarily reflective of service, rank attained or achievements.
