What do you think of the way the world is showing it's support to Paris?

Many have taken social media by storm, from changing their photos to have a French flag overlay, to the hashtag pray for Paris and many landmarks were lit up with the French flags colors.

There are those though that think all of those acts are pointless and aren't at all genuine. But what can most of do besides that? It's not like they can all pack their bags and go to Paris to aide them or grab their guns and shoot anyone that causes harm to innocent people. So instead they try to show their support in the only way they can.

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-34822281

Does that mean that it is pointless or not genuine? Share your thoughts.

SFC Anabel Cepero It shows respect along with the lowering of the US Flags to half mast. It is a connection that is and will needed to forge ahead and eliminate the threat ISIS.

http://halfstaff.org/

That being said we need to fortify and develop a course of action to rise our awareness here in the US.

Mixed views. What was done on Social Media has had no effect whatsoever on our Cmdr in Chief, who deported Syrian Christians who came here as refugees but were picked up while attempting to enter, but wants to import the Muslim refugees that were beheading the Christians.

Makes a whole lot of sense doesn't it? We have homeless vets and he wants to import other people's problems. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain refuse to take them in, so what's up with that?

France's population is 20% Muslim. And this is the thanks they get for taking in so many? They are literally losing their country and culture to Islam.

We should stand with the French (though I do remember them spying on us, and not allowing us to overfly them when we bombed Moammar Quaddafi. Later they bombed him... Go figure!). Suffice it to say I'm not a total fan of the French, but they did help us achieve independence from Great Britain... And they did give us the Statue of Liberty... That has to count for something and our humanity compels us to side with them against the sub humans that think nothing about attacking unarmed, defenseless, innocent people.

We could best support them (and ourselves!) by removing the dictator that pretends to be combatting them while covertly equipping, arming, and funding those associated with these terrorists. And we need to send the Syrian refugees home. It is time the world took a stand against these disciples of hatred before the battle becomes tougher.

Think about the world our children are inheriting. How we respond to this crisis directly impacts them. Is this what we want to leave for them? Unaffordable education, unaffordable healthcare, $60,000 of debt, plus no jobs, no peace, and no security? ??!!

At present it is prayers, shock and gestures. We will see what support actually looks like later.

PO3 Thornburg, I agree. Only time will tell what support if any shows.

Was the White House lit up in Blue, White, and Red? I didn't see it. I saw plenty of photos of it lit up in support of Gay Pride. Now it's dark. Darkness is the color of ISIS, isn't it?

It's nice that we are all supporting France but where was Support from France at various times when we've needed their assistance?

SSgt Alex Robinson so because they may have not shown support we should do the same in return? That wouldn't make us any better.

SFC Anabel Cepero - I'm going off personal experiences with the French that are very recent. The government is a socialistic government and only support people when it's convenient for their needs. During previous recent military engagement we have gotten a limited support from the French if any at all.

SSgt Alex Robinson - Yes the they can be snobbish, snotty and arrogant. At that time they had a government that was appeasing terrorists because they had been getting hammered by terrorism regularly. One hopes their response to this incident shows they have more courage and the spirit to fight back.

Interesting you bring that up. For those old enough to remember those times, consider how different the responses are today from back then. The 70s and early 80s were brutal to Europe with constant terrorist attacks, but there wasn't the sort of solidarity gestures being made back then that there are now. Attitudes were more, its your problem, so sorry, not ours. Has the world shrunk so much that we see the inner connectedness of these things better? I don't think we should be crying rivers all the time, but noticing and supporting each other seems a change to the good.

PO3 Sherry Thornburg sadly my experiences with the French are fairly recent... I have been to France many times and the past few times (during the Obama Administration) I have been treated worse than ever. I Was in France just a few months ago... The average Frenchman does not care for Americans.

What seems interesting about the "support" the "world" is showing is that it seems to mirror the initial response to the attack on Charlie Hebdo earlier this year in Paris SFC Anabel Cepero. That outpouring of support led to virtually no significant changes in France or the rest of the world. Look at the rhetoric coming out of the G-20 meeting in Turkey.
France will openly wreak vengeance but do not expect an outpouring of military action from either the Muslim nations in the middle east, NATO Countries or anywhere else.
Putin and Russia are well remembering how little the world mourned for the 224 Russians who were killed in the aircraft brought down by the bomb in the Sinai recently.

LTC Stephen F. you made a very good point about Russian and Putin well remembering how little the world mourned for those 224 Russians lost. It seems that their attack didn't "qualify" for world attention like the recent attacks did.

Cpl Cunningham, very true but unfortunately some only have those small gestures to show that they care. But absolutely actions speak louder.

Everyone is having little fits about the fact that we aren't acknowledging the attacks In Lebanon and Syria. Trust me, we read newspapers, we watch the news, we know what's going on. The problem is unlike Syria and Lebanon, these attacks don't happen everyday. We are talking about a country whose known for croissants and fashion. A country who since World War 2 has done nothing wrong to provoke such a massacre. If I were to put up a flag on my facebook profile for Syria for each time they was attacked my profile would never change. We are unified and stand with Paris because we know what they it feels like to be randomly attacked.
