I never received any monthly counseling’s stating why i wasn’t going to the board and or stating that i would go to the board until 7 days prior to me going to the board

CPL (Join to see) - It is up to each individual Soldier to know when they are eligible, when they are ready and to pester their FLL to put them on the OML for the board. Myself and every one of peers back in the day knew our TIS/TIG and when we were eligible. We prepared long before we were called so that passing the board was just procedural and demonstrating our abilities. Your NCO support chain should have been reviewing the TIS/TIG for all their subordinates as a regular duty anyway. It is a well know fact that NOBODY cares more about your career than you and that should have been your responsibility day one. Good leaders also observe and push you along but in the end its still your personal responsibility. In the past declining a board was a quick way out of the Service, not being ready for a board when you were well into your qualifying period is a sign to your COC that you want to leave anyway.
