Great post 1stSgt! For disabled vets that are above the 30% threshold, I'd seriously recommend going to their VA and applying for Vocational Rehabilitation. You'll go through a screening and if accepted, you can be placed as an intern in the federal government somewhere with a strong chance of being hired. While working as the intern, you'll be paid BAH at the E5 with dependents rate. So there are many opportunities out there and no, I wasn't paid by the VA to say this, but I am in this program right now. We need to get into these positions and change the way things are ran now.

PO1 Glenn Boucher - Sorry to hear that really. I had some too, but I was picked up a year after applying with CBP. It's been almost four months and I'm enjoying it. Keep on and stay with it.

SSG Warren Swan, thanks and I am keeping after it, its just frustrating because they keep saying how badly they need me to start but keep coming up with excuses, or so it seems to me. But I will not give up.

I heard that Vocational Rehab will pay for trade school as well. Is that true? I've been thinking of going to Motorcycle Mechanic's Institute to learn how to fix Harley Davidson motorcycles.

It is good news, but it is artificial as the U3 is not counting all job hunters, more needs to be done.
The U6 is still over 10.3% and their is 94 Million out of the labor force, this is the lowest job participation rate in 40+ years.

Good news for a change. I suspect that a lot of hiring initiatives for disabled vets have made a huge difference...

Good news for sure but again we must keep an eye on what is happening in our own regions.

1stSgt (Join to see) it is great that the numbers for unemployment are down, but unfortunately, they don't account for people who have stopped looking for work.

I was wondering how many of these jobs are actually "living wage" jobs.

1stSgt (Join to see) - If it is the only wage a person has, they will make it a living wage. It may mean eating canned tuna from WWII, but they will find a way.

That being said, a lot of those jobs are going to be the kind that you need to have two or three to make enough to keep a roof overhead, and food on the table.

It is just good to see that this is finally being looked at seriously. About time in my opinion.

This is good news, but like the other responders I fear that some of these numbers may be artificially inflated.
