The SF 15 is supposed to allow those of us with 30% or more VA disability to get an advantage or direct hiring versus a long process with competition against everyone else applying for government jobs. However, with the documents required to validate the preference, they see EVERYTHING that we were rated for. This allows them to see everything and give them a chance to find a way to discriminate against those with 80%+ and find a reason to not hire.  We need to change it so the preference can be validated but the prospective employer can not see the list of problems we were rated on. This would make it more fair and less of a disadvantage of using the form.

The SF-15 doesn't state that you have to give your letter from the VA that delineates the percentages for any disability... it just states that you have to provide proof from the VA of the total percent of compensation.  On the VA.gov page you can get a letter that only states your % of total service connected disability.  I'm 60% and have a letter from that site and have used it for applying for federal jobs.

We also need to change the system so that disability is rated upon the terminal leave date for retirees. What good is preference if you cannot use it while looking for a job.
