Uniformed Navy Officer Turned Away From NY Hotel Bar For Violating Dress Code: How would You Deal With This Situation?

An unidentified female Navy Officer, staying at an upscale NYC hotel with family while visiting during Fleet Week festivities last week was taken aback when her group was stopped by bouncers and prevented from entering the hotel's bar one evening. At first, nobody could figure it out, everyone was dressed in professional attire; until the bouncer's indicated that the Officer's Class A Uniform did not fit it's criteria for female dress, and they weren't backing down. How about it? How would you address such an insulting situation?

Management agreed that this was a training issue and the bouncer was in error. Failing to inform management of this training oversight meant that others would similarly be negatively treated by an erroneous interpretation of the standards.

AT LEAST IT WAS A FULL DRESS UNIFORM NOT CAMIS AS THE ARMY THINKS IT CAN WHERE ANY WHERE.

Communication is key. Appropriate dress a explained to bouncers might not have ever included female military dress. Discussing it with someone with more experience at the place of business would be able to address gray areas in policy such as this. I'm sure it was handled well.

PO2 Morris Langworthy, Jr - Most bouncers are chosen for muscles not brain!!! The steroids don't help either!!

Wait for it to close and empty out then burn the place to the ground. It was fleet week after all.

Quite frankly, the management probably never turned their minds to "Female Officers' Dress Uniforms" when formulating their dress code (and the bouncers appear not to have had minds capable of turning).

You have to speak with the proper grunts while scratching somewhere. It thinks you're a member of the tribe.

I can relate to this situation. I was asked to leave a bar because I was wearing a kilt.
I asked for the manager and the manager straightened it all out.
I was allowed to stay with my group of friends at the bar as a kilt is considered proper clothing.

There are three tartans for the Navy; Edsel or US Navy, Polaris (out of production), CBs (may be out of production).

Would go on in. If the "bouncer" attempted to halt me I would file assault charges in court

RADM Jay Yakeley, I'd bail you out of jail on trespassing charges. Oh... and hand over the cell phone video.

Maybe this is just a case of differing cultures between services, but why was she wearing a uniform in a bar in the first place....?

Gotcha. We would just call that Service Dress White or Blue. There really is no terminology for without Jacket as generally speaking, you don't wear it without the jacket (though removal of the jacket for Service Dress Blue can be allowed while dining or relaxed at the venue depending on what it is). Service Dress Whites wouldn't work for at all without the jacket for men as there isn't anything under that choker jacket except a T shirt. I do believe the female version has a button up white shirt though as their service dress whites don't have the choker style jacket. Probably would be wearing summer whites anyway rather than Service Dress unless you were at a fancy schmancy function of some sort.

Seems like the management didn't train their bouncer well and didn't account for a military function in town.
I hope they lost business because of it - a LOT of business.

I hope so. Openly discriminating against military in unifirm is patently unacceptable. It's also illegal as hell.
