Given the current threats of ISIS and other organizations trying to attack us online and kill us in person as well as the ever famous BAH hunters should military service members be honest about their profession on dating websites? Should they avoid putting up photos of them in uniform? When do you tell them what you do for a living?

From experience, I would say yes, when I first was on the site, I didn't have it on there. I had more scumbags than after I added it. I was also looking more for a military guy, since that's my preference. And it made it much more clear I was not one of those BAH hunters.

I don't believe in dating people to simply date, I believe in dating someone because you intend to marry them eventually. I don't want to be used, and I don't use people.

After I got divorced last year I had a friend of mine tell me I should take off a pic I had in uniform (no name visible) because a lot of gold diggers were out there. Didn't realize Soldiers made that much money to be called gold diggers lol. Hilarious.

When I was on dating sites (ugh... yes), I put a picture of myself in uniform.

First, I look damn good in it.

Second, it's who I am. I've had some ask me inappropriate questions about it, like "do you have PTSD?" Some who scoffed at it (I wonder why they initiated contact to begin with). Those who didn't like it got weeded out pretty quick.

Third, I am pretty daring on social media. I can defend myself, and I keep the right things private.

I say, go for it.

Of course, they need to know up front what they're about to get themselves into. Not everyone can handle being a military spouse.

I'm uncomfortable enough with the info I'm giving away for free on LinkedIn and RallyPoint.
