Great Article. Sounds like a tough, independent thinker, doesn't fall into the "Pack Mentality". Sounds like the Republicans that I remember from my 21 years in the Navy.

Agree, it helps illustrate how our current society rewards divisive, far-left or far-right rhetoric over compromise. One line in the article: "What if you recognize that running the United States is ultimately about working within the system, persuading the skeptics, and accepting difficult compromises?" Made me think about Trump likely not working within the system or compromising, and then I thought about Obama's record of not working within the system or compromising, and it made me realize we don't reward compromising leaders...we reward ideologues.

LCpl Mark Lefler, PERIOD! None of our elected officials have the 'gumption' to challenge any one. They will not stand up for the personal beliefs we understood them to embrace when we voted them into office! Small wonder we; the people feel betrayed!

I can tell you now, after going to my congressman's latest town-hall, I've found that he is a coward and afraid to stand up to the leadership in Congress. Betrayed isn't the word I would use. Salty language would be as thick as a CRat pound cake.

Cpl Kirk Sain, I am do not understand what these elected idiots hope to accomplish other than to continuing being 'elected officials'. When I was a young man, I decided that a congressmen being in office longer than I had been on the earth was a problem. There are too many sinecures in our world, the military thankfully, continues to change many leaders before they too become anchors rather tha assets.

As Rush Limbaugh says, the drive-bys have small intakes and huge exhausts. He has also commented on calls from old codgers like me who say, "I served, I voted, I worked, I raised 2 healthy children. What happened to my world?" I have been in the Los Angeles since 1952. Now, before going anywhere I assess the likelihood of arriving at a destination w/in a given time. I often remain at home rather than being bumper to bumper on the freeways. CA now lacks sufficient water for the continully expanding populace. There are too many damn people, why do we continue importing them? SHOOT!

"Senator Flake is the GOP’s anti-Trump" -- I found this article very thought provoking, how about you?

Interesting article. I liked Flake better when he was a Representative.
