Cant wait to get back. I'm sure so much has changed since 2009. Really want to be in an aviation unit if at all possible. Recently promoted to e-5 and was wondering what neighborhood was good for kids and schooling. Also...on or off post?

4th Sust Bde, 13th SC(E) or thereabouts. You got pinpoint orders or are you going to replacement first?

Growing up in Killeen and then being stationed for 10 years, I would say stay off-post. Killeen continues in leaps and bounds. There is Harker Heights, some people prefer Copperas Cove, and some people live in Georgetown and further. Just take the time to look around. My children still live there with their mom and they attend Belton and that, to me, is the best school district in the area. But at the end of the day, take the time to really look at the areas and then decide.

I lived in Fort Hood are for almost 8 years. I was never married nor did I have any kids however, I would say that before I left the Harker Heights area was really growing. They had built up a lot of that area and for the most part a lot of the Senior NCO's and Officers lived out in that area so it wasn't that bad. I like SFC Benavidez also lived in Temple. I did not mind living in Temple, there mall was rather small but the area like Harker Heights was really going. Before I left they had built a BJ's "great german beer there", and a few other nice restaurants. The only thing I didn't like was that long drive. Best luck to you.
