My friend just got issued a new CAC and it has a circled W on it. We've never seen it before. Does anyone know what it means?

Its to make it easier to transgender back and forth in the military. if you feel like a woman you hold it up so it is a W, if you feel like a male you hold it up so it is a M.

Somewhere in the background I hear Sir Elton John singing ”Can you feel the love tonight". Some people need to lighten up

The military sure has become very political. Cant say or do anything. Everyone gets offended. Everyone is expected to be perfect.

PO3 (Join to see) - ummm you DO know you CAN be color blind and be "true military'...and a Navy man calling other military 'posers" ....really?
And we won't even go to the whole misuse of the word 'retarded'....

Actually during the Second World War Two of the men who were involved with doing "frog men" activities in the South Pacific (that is get in the water, find mines and destroy them or mark them for destruction. And get shot at by the Japanese). Of the two, one was colorblind and his partner was far sighted. They did well as a team until one day the colorblind individual wore a white shirt in the water to stay warm. He then noticed he was receiving lots of attention from the Japanese. His partner told him to take off the shirt. Never publicize your position.

They are for colorblind security guards. W for white, G for Green and B for foreign. On non gov/non military CACs there is a colored band under the name to denote contractor or foreign military.

CAC Change Aids Visually Color Impaired Security Officers
The Defense Department’s common access card is undergoing modification to make it easier for visually color-impaired security officials to identify bearers who are military, government or contractor

WTF????? I am colorblind, I also served as a Patrolman in Physical Security. You are supposed to touch the ID and read the rate/rank, if a contractor it should state it. Who's the rocket scientist coming up with this crap. And to SSG Biggs, that is why you wouldn't qualify for the position, we are required to read and write (tickets), (just messin with ya)

LTC Mary Austin
SPC Charles Batchelor - Incorrect. They (meaning the local nationals OCONUS) must be able to read, write English and speak English to get the security job working for the military installations.

SPC Charles Batchelor
LTC Mary Austin - I'm aware that they really can read English, another reason for the letters is with B/W cameras it helps you ID what kind of badge it is. Facilities have both types of cameras because B/W produces a sharper detail picture than color but you need color to ID clothing etc..
