Praying to God for wisdom and talking about the greatest nation on earth. I would think Christians would like that. Seems like a lot of "Christians" on here are pretty hateful.

SSG Michael Scott - I think the truth would be that Islam and Christianity are both full of horrible hypocritical people who murder, rape, and commit atrocities. I think this Imam said a pretty nice prayer. I think SSG Audwin Scott makes an excellent point. Would Jesus endorse all the hate spewing from alleged followers mouths?

Yes, if they confessed to Jesus, that he/she is a sinner and believes in him, they should have enteral life.

It is not incumbent on the United States to redefine itself to prove how tolerant we are. Look how tolerant the Middle East is to Jews and Christians. Personally, I do not approve of changing our entire culture and value system so we can pat ourselves on the back and congratulate one another on being so accepting. You must understand that there is zero reciprocity with Islam when it comes to what culture they want for you.

LCDR (Join to see) - I have had subordinates that did practice Islam. But, that has nothing to with our Government having an opening prayer to Allah. Our nation was built on Christian values and those who wanted to get away from a tyrannical government. So, why would you condone the Government built on Christian values praying to a deity that promotes the killing of all non believers of their faith. Check the Quaraan to see how tolerant they are of the other religions.

Roughly as tolerant as the Christian Bible. Just because the vast majority of Christians don't take the word of the Bible literally and use it to justify murder doesn't mean it isn't in there. The biggest difference in levels of violence between religions in the world right now isn't which religion is most violent or dangerous, it's which religion's followers are from an area of the world that has had continuous war for centuries and for whom violence is the norm. Americans are not accustomed to unprovoked violence, and thus their religion has very little to do with their propensity to commit violence in its name. Their level of crazy determines that.

Sooooo...hate to say I told ya so...

Look we just got 10k "refugees" in NOLA. If you don't think the same elements that just blew up Paris aren't in that group, you're willfully ignorant. The time for hurt feelings has come to an end and it's time to start calling it what it is. Western culture is under attack. End of discussion.

In hindsight, since this is from Jan 2015 and 10 months have passed, maybe this question has been answered.

Not to sound ignorant but are any of the House Representatives following the Islamic faith?
Personally I think that any opening prayer in a very mixed bag of religions should be kept neutral and not faith specific. From my limited understanding of Islam they don't seem to accept people not of their faith into their prayers so why would you have an Islamic prayer to Allah in the House of Representatives?

Sgt Richard Buckner - and what is your point? I said not to sound ignorant because I didn't know and I obviously didn't check. Had I said that I checked and couldn't find any members of the House being of the Islamic faith then I would look stupid. But hey its your right to nitpick.

What gives us the right to pick and choose which part of the amendments we support? Freedom of religion is one of the founding principles of this country. Which one of your rights were violated by this prayer?

This is why we shouldn't have a prayer at all.

First of all, I'm not liberal and I am Christian. Second, this country was founded on an ideal that all of us are equals, and third, the ordinary person doesn't get a choice on what's printed on the money.

So stop with the namecalling, or are you mentally still in junior high school???

Not even, because you've forgotten the first part of the 1st amendment... Congress shall make no law RESPECTING AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION...or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.

That means if a governmental body opens their sessions with a prayer, each and every religion gets a shot at the prayer, not just one.

The people that complain about a Muslim prayer in Congress, would they be complaining if there was a Christian prayer instead? Are they complaining aganist all religious prayers in Congress, or only Islamic prayers out of Islamophobia?
