Bring them back. Even our Furry Veterans should expect that much. We can find something and someplace for them.

I am glad to learn that military working dogs are going to retire in this nation Sgt Spencer Sikder. So many of them have dedicated their lives to their handlers and teh units they support with quite a few dying on the battlefields.

How do we look these dogs in the eyes and then f@cking abandon them?

Is the practice of not leaving a soldier behind any different for these warriors?

They served our nation, risk their life like any soldiers. The least we can do is to bring them back home and allow a loving home to adopt them. Even best, train them as service dog for veterans , and once again spending their peaceful life with the men that they will die for.

I'm very happy that we're bring them home, and I hope every effort is made for them to stay with their handlers. I have a 90lb furball laying on my feet keeping them warm as I type this and I know how strong the bond between a "boy and his dog" can be.

However, I think it's a bit too far to call them "soldiers" or "furry veterans".

Yes, because they are dogs. While I think we should, and can, bring them home, at the end of the day they are animals. Maybe, just maybe, we should be focusing on the human veterans in trouble and stop getting wrapped around the axle with PC feel good BS...but I will end repeating we should and can, bring them home.

While the definition of animal is accurate MSG Brad Sand, many have found solace and comfort in them and liken them to be partners, pets, children, etc. Some have only their pet left in their lives.

MSG Brad Sand Gotta disagree with you on this one, MSG. Dogs ARE animals...but so are we. And, they're sentient. Just like us. Not as bright, of course, but sentient nonetheless, with the (mostly) same gamut of emotions that we have. They do their jobs despite the fear and anxiety they have to go through to do so, just like humans. We owe them at least a good home for their final days. A lot of the vets that you (correctly) say we should be taking care of are alive because of these canine Soldiers.

You can disagree but if you risked one human's life to save a dog, you would be wrong on so many levels. If you think a human and dog are equal, then you are part of one of the core problems our culture is being poisoned by. Yes they are loyal PETS. Never said they did not deserve a good home, I think I actually said the opposite...twice.
