I am fine with the arrangement as it is, but the suggestion posed in the attached article seems legitimate enough to consider. When it comes to national defense, we should always be seeking the best possible arrangement.

SPC (Join to see) - Sorry but wrong sir. Between refuel, cargo, AWACS, bombers and fighters the USAF has the most active aircraft fleet. You would actually be surprised at the numbers if you research active bases and even guard with reserve still have to complete refresher flights to keep them sharp.

Guys, we should leave PFC Armstrong alone, he just got out of Army BCT yesterday so he obviously knows more about how Air Force operations work.

I read this Q and A. Being on both sides of the coin, from being the guy requesting CAS then becoming one who sent it out, I can tell you that no matter how many text books, hearings or interviews he does with old vets, he doesn't grasp the complexities of operating a massive air force on a global scale. The daily maintenance on one B-1 wing is a nightmare that no GCE commander would want to deal with let alone set aside some of his budget for. This guy needs to get some trigger time with the services and not on a tour with PA,but the dirty side that actually shows you the need for separation.

SN Greg Wright - they added a sniper pod to the airframe and the CAS and data mission improved incredibly.

SN Greg Wright - B-1s have been used for CAS in Afghanistan. They are not suited to it, and there have been real problems. Too fast, too high, too big.

Seems like a pretty innocuous statement to downvote for, TSgt Vina. It's generally considered courteous to at least explain why?

SN Greg Wright - I spent 8 years at Ellsworth AFB. Flight line MX. Was there when we got them, deployed numerous times with them, debriefed crews and shot the breeze with grunts who appreciated the system. It might not be up to some folks technical standards but one of the pod jets we launched covered my younger bros arse, so I'm happy with what the B-1 brought via CAS.
