CNN's reporting their Afghan sources as saying Mullah Omar died in Pakistan two years ago.

If indeed it is true, that is a small victory against the Taliban. However, no matter how many Taliban leaders are captured or removed from being able to exert influence many more seem to step up.

PV2 (Join to see) - Well, the TB has managed to keep the battlefield momentum despite losing Bin Laden and now (if it's true) Mullah Omar. It sure would be interesting to know who's been calling the shots or if it's the Inner Shura. Also wondering if TB has been trying to keep this a secret because of the effect it would have on their overseas fundraising efforts. Donors might be motivated to give if it's Mullah Omar's TB, but no so much for others.

If he died 2 years ago, I have seen no significant changes in their operations... Also, wonder if the USA has continued looking for said dead guy for this time frame??!! The only way I can see it causing an insurgency spike would be if his demise was new news to them also..... End of Taliban? Not so much.

TB is really good at OPSEC, so maybe not even their operatives know the good Mullah is visiting Allah. That's why I was wondering his death would trigger a spike.
