If I get promoted to E-6 before my report date, will I retain my slot or will big Army send me somewhere else?

I am currently on orders to Hawaii with a report date of April 2021. I recently got my P status for SGT to SSG and I will definitely pick up my 6 before my report date. This is my first PCS move and i am wondering will i retain my slot or will big army send me somewhere else???

50/50, really. You could very well still stay on orders and just be slotted accordingly. Sadly, won't really know until the Zero hour arrives. But, I am betting that you will still stay on orders for your projected assignment. SFC James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" was a SSG when he received PCS orders but was able to pick up SFC right before reporting. And I think he still stayed on the path of assignment.

The USR math is two up, one down. Most likely they'll realign people among slots to make grades fit

SFC James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" - Since I’m a little late to the party congratulations on the promotion!

You would usually keep your slot unless they are over strength on 25U3 at Hawaii.
If you requested the slot through retention and reenlisted for it, you will usually keep it. If they are so over strength on 25U3 in Hawaii that they can't justify sending one more, then HRC will renegotiate your assignment with you.

I got my e-4(p), came down on assignment, got pinned, was still in a e-5 slot. Ended up in a e-6 slot a month later
