How should the ribbon for a Bronze Star for Valor and a Bronze Star for Merit look? I wore just the Bronze Star ribbon with V but that would not include the Bronze Star for Merit.

Thank you. I wore it like this for about 23 years but was never sure it was correct. Actually, I had both the V and oak leaf cluster less toward the center and centered on the red side areas. Good to know.
Thanks again.

LTC Bruce Mackey - Yes, Sir. I think the devices are traditionally spaced out more into the red as you said, but that is the info I found.

DA PAM 670-1, ch20-11, a. “OakLeafClusters. A bronze or silver twig of four oak leaves with three acorns on the stem. Personnel wear oakleaf clusters centered on the service ribbons, the suspension ribbon of full-sized and miniature medals, and unit award emblems, with the stems of the leaves pointing to the wearer’s right. A silver oak leaf cluster is worn instead of five bronze oak leaf clusters. Oak leaf clusters joined together in series of two, three, and four are authorized for optional purchase and wear. Silver oak leaf clusters are worn to the wearer’s right of bronze oak leaf clusters; when worn with the "V" device, oak leaf clusters are worn to the wearer’s left of the “V” device. Oak leaf clusters 5/16 inch in length are worn on service ribbons, the suspension ribbon of miniature medals, and unit awards; oak leaf clusters 13/32 inch in length are worn on the suspen- sion ribbon of full-size medals. See AR 600–8–22 for associated decorations.”

If you receive the BSM for merit you wear it plain. If it is a hero badge you wear it with a 'V" device on it. If you had one of each I guess you would add an oakleaf cluster for second award. Then just tell folks one was for not shooting the CO and the other was for saving his life during an ambush.
