This can be large or small...can be to your hometown, organization or ideology.

How do you 'Give Back' and how would you recommend others to do the same?

MSG, as a prior Unit BOSS, I always had our volunteers at the Sandhills Veterans Cemetary, donating foo and clothes to the Salvation Army, or running for various Causes.  I did that because on my own off time, I myself had accumulated over 200 hours o volunteer service via Community cleanups, Hunger Standown, United Way, and whatever other events I could find.  My suggestion, if you're in FT Bragg hook into Manna Church, Cliffdale during their Small Group events nights.  Those nights show how you can become part of a smaller group volunteering for various things.  If not in NC, Facebook has become an awesome tool, so see what volunteer groups are on afcebook in your area and link into them.  Again at Ft Bragg, look up Happenings Around Fayetteville, Fayetteville Events, United Way, and the City of Fayetteville page itself.  They will posts various events weekly to link into.  Good luck and remember "every hand counts!"

Excellent question.  There are a large variety of things one can do to make a difference using their unique skill sets.  I've found that no matter how busy, you can always find some time to 'give back'.

For my part, I've got a few activities I like to involve myself in.  Most important is teaching financial planning and resume writing seminars for reserve component soldiers.  I've been lucky to have both a military and business career that has allowed me to glean a wide variety of experience from my peers and supervisors that I can pass along to the next generation of service members.

Another venture is the Civil Air Patrol.  I got involved with their program a few years ago when I had a break in service and wanted a way to continue feeling like I was doing something greater than myself.  The Civil Air Patrol does a large portion of Air Force Search and Rescue as well as runs one of the best Cadet programs for youth in the country today.  Anyone with an evening a week to spare should consider becoming involved with their local unit.

I've also involved myself in preserving the history of my affiliated regiment (the 116th) through working on the board of directors of our regimental foundation to preserve unit history and traditions.  Its important that we not forget who we are, and where we came from.
