Units are being told to select new female armor and infantry officers for platoon leader positions ahead of their male counterparts who have been waiting for the position.

Not sure if this guidance has extended to the NCO side.

Reading all your posts, it seems like the majority of us agree -- that this is not the right way to address this. So how did our military come to this brilliant conclusion?? I just don't get it. Makes me wonder if our leadership does not really represent us.

The First Female Combat Arms Officers in the Army were in Air Defense back in 1979.
There were two Female LTs in ADAOBC in January that year and a Female Capitan in the ADAOAC later that year. One of the LTs made COL on active duty and another Major in the reserves. The Branch Transfer Capitan ended up as a General.

It is a case where we will see what we see down the road, all the currently serving people can do is /salute and carry on.
