Headed to Berlin tomorrow. Any recommended sites in and around the area, military or otherwise?

I went there years ago on a business trip and we hired a professional guide. The person was a citizen of Germany from WWII days and he had nothing bad to say about the USA, primarily due to the Berlin Airlift. You have someone that knows the History and the sights. If I returned again that is what I would do. On your own, you will miss a lot.

My first vote is for the Checkpoint Charlie Museum, I did hear it is still there. Second vote would be the Kudam if there are still leaves on the trees in Berlin, that Blvd was sooooo cool to walk down, just the experience of walking down it was nice in the Summer with the bands every so many street corners. Not sure what kind of experience it is in the fall.
It's too bad for you that you can no longer see the Russian Military housing or Russian Troops. I was stunned to see both back in 1985.

The Russian WWII military cemetery, The Soldiers who died in the taking of Berlin are buried in huge well manicured mass graves with a statue of Mother Russia looking over the plots. Went there in the 80's as reward for NCO of the year for 2nd SUPCOM while it was still in the DDR on flag orders. Very moving.
Don't know if it still exists but the check point Charlie museum was also an interesting site.

SPC Erich Guenther - Roger Erich, that's what the DDR was. We travelled through check point Charlie, got to see the remains of the feurher bunker, the East German tomb of the unknown Soldier, the building where the surrender was signed and the other side of the Brandenburg gate. We also got to go through doughboy village urban warfare site and a slew of other neat places.

CSM Richard StCyr - Me too, spent a week at that MOUT site. Remember the Sirens on the DDR Wall warning of an escape going off at noon each day to test them. Also had a former NG LT point a loaded pistol at me there and tell me to "Shut up"(lol).......never saw such a rapid discharge process in my life.......that LT was a Civilian as soon as we got back to our Kaserne!!! And I didn't even report him because it didn't bother me, my peers did.

SPC Erich Guenther - I was on my best behavior, they made pretty it clear that the Berlin Brigade was hosting us, not baby sitting us. Fun times.

Been awhile but, I was stationed there in the late 80s. I don't know how long you will be there but, there is enough to do in Berlin to last you a couple weeks without needing to visit any other city. Great place....at least it used to be.
