Fredricka Whitfield: CNN Anchor Calls Dallas Gunman's Actions 'Courageous and Brave'

“It was very courageous and brave, if not crazy as well, to open fire on the police headquarters, and now you have this scene, this standoff," Fredricka Whitfield said Saturday to CNN legal analyst Philip Holloway.
Why do reporters/anchors chose these words? More importantly, why do news outlets and society allow this to continue? Referring to terrorists as courageous and brave may spur more people to want to be called the same...by doing the same.

This is why there are teleprompters...
When people go off script, sometimes they REALLY go off script. I wonder how Time/Warner will handle this.

I hope not, Cpl Jeff N.. There can't be anyone, even at CNN, who would publicly condone this... can there?

Cpl Jeff N.
Well, 1SG (Join to see) Let's see if she is fired or forced to apologize for her remarks. My guess is neither will happen as her managers at CNN likely agree with the sentiment.

Well Matt, IMO that let these shenanigans to continue because they bring in the ratings.

These major news outlets care more about ratings and 'selling a story' than their own society and mankind...shameful.
Is this really ethical? But they'll continue to dig up and exploit unethical behavior.

She will reply today, if she hasn't already, saying she "Misspoke" Whatever the hell that means. The need to come out and just say it like it is, " I said some utter crap that made no sense." The same thing with Brooke Baldwin when she (paraphrase) said that vets that become police go on shit and cannot differentiate between combat and police patrol. I liked her until she said that.

SGM Steve Wettstein, misspoke, "poor word choice," or that old journalism copout standby, "taken out of context." Whatever! When stuff like this goes down, I go to local news outlets to get my info. Local reporters are far less sensationalistic, and they still focus on getting the facts and reporting the story as accurately as possible as it unfolds. When it's all said and done, they still have to live in the community once the media circus leaves town.

I couldn't agree more, SGM Matthew Quick. That's crazy talk. I must assume that it was a spur of the moment deal and she later realized how nuts her comments were.

The apology is appreciated...hope this will serve as a lesson for future journalists/anchors.

now mind you, by posting this, I'm not excusing her or think her apology is real, I was simply reposting it.
