Does anyone else out there feel like the VA and the Military side of the house should inform Soldiers better on benefits?

VA comp pay and military pay. I felt very ill informed when it came to deciding if I should have my VA comp or military pay with held. There were a lot of details left out about how they work. I unfortunately found out the hard way, when the notification arrived that I owed the Government $18,000. It is a lesson learned and I will need to figure out a way to pay it off. I may need to get another part time job and I do not want to but I am not sure I have any other choice. I really wish the VA and Military pay would get their people together and discuss how to do these options so that no one else gets into this situation.

SFC (Join to see) absolutely it's totally mind blowing when you get out and find out on your own!

Yes it does and unfortunately because I was ill informed I will now be paying the Military side of the house $18,000. I am not sure how I will pay it back, but I will figure it out once they start asking for payment.

I am sure you can work out a payment plan with the IRS. Yes there is a disconnect between the military and the VA.
