Do you think Donald Trump is guaranteed to be the Republican Nominee in 2020?

Whether one likes or Dislikes President Trump, he is definitely a polarizing figure. I was reading about him appointing Brad Parscale to start prep work for his 2020 campaign, and thought about whether that may be premature.
With Donald Trump already starting to think about his 2020 campaign, this is a valid question even if it is as previously stated, premature.

He could get the nod if he ran again, but with the mass retirements from those in his own party, I don't think he'd be reelected. You're not loosing the no name folks, at lot of powerful names. If the "blue wave" rides in this year, he's going to become the "lame duck" and unfortunately Pelosi and Schumer will have a field day on him if they get both chambers. Romney's running for a seat they should just give him being he has no real competition, and Romney's been a thorn in Trumps side awhile.
Gov Kasiech if he ran should get the GOP nod. He should've won last cycle. Hands down the best candidate in the GOP field. Not sure who's willing to run for the Dems. Too many names being thrown around as "thinking of running". At least there won't be a Clinton in this.

SSG Warren Swan That is a decent assessment. The only thing I would add is yet at the end of your Clinton comment. I don't think that she will run again, but who knows what will happen in the next three years.

PO3 Steven Sherrill - I would be PISSED if she ran again. She wasn't Presidential material the last two times, and she won't be one next time. She needs to find away to occupy her mind. Go on a speaking tour, knit, eat a bag of dicks, whatever. Just don't run again. The Russians won't help her win

SSG Warren Swan - They might, if they thought that is would sow more chaos than has already been sowed within the U.S. I truly believe that Russia is an adversarial nation, and should be treated as such.

If he runs for a second term, I think he will get the nomination. But I don’t see him running again. It’s cramping his style too much.

He filed his re-election right after inauguration, and has started laying the groundwork for his campaign SMSgt Thor Merich though I think PVT James Strait nailed it when he said that Trump likes to eff with people. So realistically he may not even know what he actually intends to do.

It would be plausible for Trump to wake up one day and say “F -it” and go back to NY.

The incumbent typically gets the nomination when running for reelection; I don't think I've ever seen it *not* happen. Will he win reelection? I sincerely doubt it; too many of his own (former) supporters are already beginning to regret voting for him. As long as the Democrats don't fuck up and put yet *another* candidate out with zero electability, I'd say Trump is gonna be a one-term president. If that.

Perhaps ... but when all is said and done, "what's in your wallet" plays a big role in how one casts one's ballot. As I noted in another post, if the economy continues to grow, terrorism is held in check, and Trump delivers on his border security and immigration reform promises ... as well as keeping the heat on illegal aliens, people might say one thing in public but in the sanctity of the voting booth, I'd bet he'll get reelected.

LTC (Join to see) - Make no mistake about it. I despise Trump. I think he's a vile, racist human being that quite honestly *nobody* should support. Having said that, if things do start turning around for the better, I could see myself saying he's a good president. I'd never vote for him ever, though. His character has guaranteed that.

Pretty much guaranteed. Short of a health issue or major scandal, he will get the nomination.
Historically, it is very difficult to defeat an incumbent. It has only happened once and that was in 1852

It depends on the make up of the Congress. I think that in the unlikely chance that both houses flip, he'll be impeached, long before the election. Otherwise, yes. The incumbent almost always runs.

Yeah but polarized and controversial should not be the defining characteristics for a president.

MAJ James Woods That is a good point. Then again as of late there has been controversy (whether it was warranted or not) around The last four presidents.

Yeah but none like we've ever scene today. Could you imagine a polarized America in the '60s when JFK was assassinated and members of either party started to accuse the other of a Deep State in government trying to lead a coup? That would definitely happen today...unfortunately as certain MSM networks love pushing conspiracy for profit.

My answer is it is extremely likely unless he is going through an impeachment process or something similar.

MAJ Bryan Zeski
SPC Kevin Ford I think even if he WAS going through an impeachment process, he'd still somehow get the GOP nomination.

MAJ Bryan Zeski - Given the last year I'm having a hard time coming up with a reason why your analysis is incorrect.
