I went into the Army, 54 years ago, and I am still dreaming (about 3 to 5 times per month) about being "in". Although it can vary, the most common theme is that I have a new assignment (generally a TDY Mission or a school), I am in the barracks, getting ready for the next day's duties, but I only have shirts (or only have pants), because the rest of my uniforms are in the military cleaners, and they are never open during off-duty hours. (How's THAT for being based in Reality?)

So, to you have any "Service-Related Dreams", how often, and about what?

All the time to various degrees. Sometimes it's just a fear or forgetting something I'm supposed to have, and other times it's full on immersion as part of a unit. It happens weekly if not more.

Absolutely! I am also a retired police detective, and I had to leave the department after 22 years from a broken back, and I so went from "Cop" to "Retired" immediately. My OTHER recurrent dream is that I have been retired for over 10 years, but I am still going back in to the station, just to clear out my unfinished cases.

MSG Lonnie Averkamp - I was a reservist for most of my time and then basically on active duty for two years for training/schools/OIF. I had 9 years total and have been out for 13 now. So not in insignificant time but nothing too long either. Plus I've been out longer than i was ever in and it's surprising how often the military creeps in while I'm sleeping.

SSG Carlos Madden - True. When you are in your late 20's, 9 years is most of your adult life. It can print pretty deep in the hard-drive of your computer.

MSG Lonnie Averkamp - You're probably right. I went in less than two months after my 17th birthday so it certainly had an impression on me.

I think that there are still conflicts that our computers are trying to work out.

Getting ready for patrol, missing part of my gear is one of my most common dreams. I have killed a couple guys in my dreams - woke up soaking on those. Some times can't get everyone together to leave. Never having everything ready for inspection.

There are many very common similarities in the answers here. I think that our minds believe that there are SOME things that are too critical to let go of, and it keeps replaying those scenarios in our computers, even when the situation (or threat) is long-past.

MSG Lonnie Averkamp - Those were the things ingrained into us, loosing a weapon, our gear ready, accountability, time, appearance.
