I love studying Psychology and learning about people operate. I realize that each of us have our own strengths and weaknesses. How well do we know ourselves and our motivators. I found it fascinating that after joining the military, I had a bit of a change. Whereas I used to be an ISTP, I somehow changed to an ISFJ (with a very close "P". Has anyone else taken this test before and into their careers? If so, what changed and do you like the change? (Personally I preferred the "T" me over the "F" me. Just to humor me (and others that may be curious), would you mind sharing your type? I'm also interested to see if there is a trend amongst those senior and those junior, though I have a feeling most Warrant Officers will be an "I".<div><br></div><div>A few links to get you started. Sergeant Mickles, this is a good question.<div><br></div><div>I was an INTJ in 2001 and recently found that I am still an INTJ. &nbsp; It turns out that my percentages in all four psychological functions are very high, so it's unlikely that my personality type will ever change.<div><br></div><div>What I find most interesting is that the career fields associated with my personality type are the ones that I've loved and have pursued most aggressively both as a civilian and as a soldier.&nbsp;</div></div>

That is awesome! I noticed too, that mine are pretty spot on, as well. It also allows for the shifting mine does. I used to think I had various interests because I'm a Gemini, but I looked at the types I fluctuate between and realized my interests all lie within them.

I've always been an ISTJ, and still am.  I guess that makes me a good little worker bee!  It might be interesting to give this test to my Soldiers and see where they fall.  Thanks for posting the test and the very interesting descriptive results.

I'm actually rather surprised that almost everyone is an "I". Hmm, is this truly an Army of 1. I was expecting most of you to be an "E". Thank you SFC Staley for being an "E"!

I thought there might be more "I" personality types on here.  If we were all "E" types we would be out and about networking instead of doing it behind a computer screen.

Now that you put it that way, it makes sense. I'm way more of an internet "E"

A real interesting question is, have you ever had your soldiers do the test and bring you their results?

I can't say I have, but I think it would be interesting to see if this would help mitigate some of the mentoring issues. Maybe some leaders are very narrow minded in their mentoring style, and do not fully understand that they are missing their target audience.

My results for the Luscher Color Test, pretty interesting:

I read yours. Did it seem accurate to you? I just took it and am pretty shocked by the result. I am well aware of the art of color therapy and the thoughts and feeling colors can elicit, but mine was kinda accurate. I am also aware as to how things can be written generically to fit everyone, but yours and mine were totally different.

Tried this one, but the results described almost the opposite of me.  I'm curious about the science behind the color quiz.

SGT Mickles, I think my results were about 80% correct. Of course life choices and societial norms have changed so some of the things have to be played down to not stick too far outside of the masses.

SGT Bytnar, here is a quick look into the science. I'm not saying there isn't more to find but it is a start. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%C3%BCscher_color_test

I just took this test on a website I found and here are the results.

PERSONALITY: ISTJ
VARIANT: TURBULENT
ROLE: SENTINEL
You are one of the Sentinels - a reliable and dedicated individual who respects traditions and prizes responsibility. You are known for your directness, attention to detail and quiet dedication.

I assume that relates to the Duty Fulfiller variant in the OP.

You are the type that doesn't care about this type of stuff. Its ok, there are certain types that don't. If you are a tad bit curious, SGT Butler posted a much shorter one (4 questions). I think most extraverts don't care to much for it, as they get their stimulation externally. Us introverts are always looking into ourselves so we are more in tuned with this kind of stuff. I'm sure you're into stuff I could care less about, also. If we were all the same (I'd hope everyone was just like me), life would be boring.

Ill remember you in the future and try not to make jokes(a thing that someone says to cause amusement or laughter)  on your super serious pages.

Oh no! I was not offended at all. I found your post quite hilarious. I literally LOL'd. I have a bit of a dry sarcastic humor that doesn't translate well into words. Then again, it doesn't often translate well in conversation as I'll say something to be funny and only the crickets are amused. The people usually have quizzical looks on their faces.

Weird. With that one, I am a INFP. Did you learn some good stuff in that class? I think that is one I'm going to CLEP (with some studying, first) How far are you into your studies?

I learned so much during that class, and now I look at people in a completely different light. I have also taken the assessemnt and I actively look for opportunities to change the way I present myself when dealing with others in order to turn it into a positive interaction for myself and the person I am interacting with.

What helped me with the research, and put it into context, was relating the information to situations that I experienced while in the Army.

If it were up to me, I would require Organizational Behavior and Leadership training in every NCOPD that is conducted.

I would alseo require it to be a LARGE part of all the NCOES schools.

Here comes my existential moment and I do ask for opinion son this from all as we all have different outlooks on the Military Behavior:

As Non-Commissioned Officers, we are always quick to find those soliders that "just don't get it" about the military.

These are the soldiers that we see as sloppy in their discipline and perhaps question everything...they have the "smart ideas" or quick smart-ass comments when military order and discipline contradict simplicity.

But see, as experienced NCOs, we have to juggle safety, military opertions manuals, regulations, and personal experience. We tend to be able to see farther ahead at the bigger picture.

By military nature we are drawn to proven standards, techniques, and procedures because history has taught us that though it may take longer to perform a task, we are ensuring that that task is 100% complete. We cannot allow shortcuts just because they are convenient. The standards are what make our military successful and we have to engrain that in the minds of the soldiers (enlisted and officers alike) because NCOs are the mentors and trainers of the Army and we have a task of enforcing standards on every soldier, regardless of rank.

We are quick to pounce on a soldier and typically ignore their concerns, because we are the standard bearers, we know what is right and once an NCO is set in his or her way, we probably aren't going to budge...that is the nature of the beast.

However, as educated NCOs, we also have a responsibility to understand the behavioral aspects of those that are under our command, and even of those that are not.

That soldier that questions you on everything, is not a bad soldier, but he can be quite annoying. You as an NCO just haven't taken the opportunity to truly understand the type of person they are, what makes them tick. Once you understand their behavioral indicators through Myers-Briggs, you will be better equipped when you conduct constant mentorship and counseling. And the best part about all of this, is that you will "get them" and they will appreciate it and they will begin to respect you more for it.

There is nothing in Organizational Behavior that says you have to change Military Standards or in changing your role as a Non-Commissioned Officer, a leader of soldiers. In fact Organizational Behavior is all about understanding others, and approaching them in different ways that match their personality, and through these modified approaches on your part, you can begin to shape and mold their behavior, attitudes, and actions.

Before anyone here knocks what I am saying, I cahllenge each and every NCO to take and to have their troops take the Meyers Briggs test and get theose results and understand who their soldiers really are.

You will get a whole new perspective and may even find things out about yourself after you have taken it that might put things into perspective.

In the same boat as you SSG Barin, I might have to PM you to find out how you manage as far as having to interact with so many people all the time. My emotional stamina is pretty low, so dealing with multiple people a day cry about whatever drains me pretty quick.

When I joined I was an ENTJ and still am it has not changed.  I'm not certain I could say that anything about knowing this made any difference in my career.  I know that the strengths that come with the personality type didn't change or lessen because of taking the test or the knowledge of the results.

I don't think it is necessarily the change, but it could be just my type, but the more I understand myself, the better I feel. I think your type alone may be why it doesn't concern you. If we all obsessed over it, that would be a problem. We need all types to make the world go 'round.
Thanks for sharing!

Yes, that is correct in order to make the system work... it does take all of the types.  Also, yes, my type is probably why it didn't concern me.  I know that and have embraced it.
Good luck with your topic here.  It's interesting.
